Linear Systems has created the DIMS Enterprise ImageServer which is a hardened application for information and evidence management utilizing a Linux operating system. Linux was selected for optimization of hardware resources, security, performance, and elimination of licensing fees. The Linear Systems DIMS ImageServer runs on LinearOS, which is an in-house, purpose-built and security-driven build of the Linux operating system based on a Gentoo Linux distribution (or there is an option for a CentOS implementation as outlined below). The primary reason for the selection of the LinearOS, based on our specific Linux kernel, is to meet the requirements of the security classifications levels according to and by the standards set forth in FIPS-200 and SP 800-53. Additional benefits of the LinearOS are that support costs are greatly reduced or completely eliminated for an Agency’s IT Department since Linear provides complete support and maintenance of the OS, and the hardened OS provides near 100% up time.
